Background
Patrick MacGloin is a former British diplomat and consulting partner, and a Fellow Member of the Chartered Institute of Information Security. He has over 20 years international experience in information security, cyber resilience, digital intelligence and complex investigations. His early career focused on end-point forensics and RF security, particularly in high-threat environments. He was part of the team which set up the UK’s National Technical Assurance Centre (NTAC), leading special projects and responsible for European liaison. He provided hands-on triage and HMG liaison to international governments in the Middle East in the face of high-profile cyber-attacks in early 2010s. As an advisor for a UAE Government entity, Patrick lead a transformation programme which won the Institute of Risk Management (IRM) Global Cybersecurity Strategy Award in 2016. He has worked with European central banks and national authorities to introduce national cyber and operational resilience regulation and assurance programmes. He was on the Advisory Board for the RSA Security Conference, bringing the event to the Middle East and presenting to ASEAN Senior Officials with Interpol and US Agencies. He has lead response and negotiation strategies for several large-scale international breaches and cyber extortion events, as well as post-incident investigations including expert witness for contentious matters in UK, Europe and US. Patrick is passionate about professionalisation of cyber and information security, collaborating cross-discipline and providing direction and mentoring for those new to the profession. He has degrees from the Universities of Manchester and Cambridge.
Board Responsibility
Patrick leads on CIISec’s innovation events, including the steering committees for
innovation webinars and the
CIISec LIVE 2021 event. He leads on OutReach to other professional bodies and supports CIISec’s work with the UK College of Policing for professional standards in cyber and digital forensics at the
Institute of Cyber Digital Investigations Professionals (ICDIP).
