Industry Survey White Paper

For the last four years the Chartered Institute of Information Security (CIISec), formerly the Institute of Information Security Professionals (IISP) has run a survey across its membership and the wider security industry to garner views on several factors relating to the security profession. How people feel about the roles they have, the success, failures and challenges they face, and how that translates into a safer environment for businesses dealing with security and cyber risks.

It is 2019, and having just been granted Royal Charter status, the Chartered Institute of Information Security is now able to present this year’s survey results and analysis. The survey was structured differently in 2018. Past surveys found many consistent themes in member’s feedback and there was a need to draw on a broader, and more international, audience. Hence, survey questions relating to the operation of the Institute itself were removed (as they were skipped anyway for non-member respondents), to focus on the views of the wider industry and profession as well as keeping abreast of wider business trends. Member feedback is now sought through other channels (such as event feedback forms) leaving the survey to focus purely on how the security profession feels it is performing.
