Chartering & Professional Registration
Members of CIISec can apply to obtain professional registration with the UK Cyber Security Council in the following specialisms: Cyber Security Governance & Risk Management, Secure System Architecture & Design and Cyber Security Audit and Assurance. The Security Testing specialism is being run by The Cyber Scheme. More details can be found on their website.
Obtaining professional registration with the UK Cyber Security Council follows a standardised procedure. Initially, you must fill out the application form. This form undergoes an assessment process, and if successful, you’ll be invited to an interview. The outcome of this interview is then shared with the Council.
- The application form is completed
- The application is assessed
- If the assessment phase is successful, there will be an interview
- The interview will take place with two Council approved assessors
- The interview recommendation will be moderated by a final assessment panel
- The decision from the final assessment panel will be communicated both to the applicant and the Council
Membership Requirements
- If you are an Associate of CIISec, you can apply to become professionally registered as either an Associate or Principal Cyber Security Professional in your chosen specialism.
- If you are a Full Member of CIISec you can apply to become professionally registered as a Chartered Cyber Security Professional in your chosen specialism.
- Once professionally registered, you are required to provide evidence annually of your Continuing Professional Development.
Applying for Professional Registration
Applying for UK Cyber Security Council Associate will cost £500+VAT, applying for Principal and Chartered will cost £700+VAT.
You should first make yourself familiar with the process. Please first read the Guidance Document.
Please be sure that you are aware of the most appropriate specialism for your skills by reading the Council’s contextualised standard for the specialism which are linked below. Your assessment will be against the UK Cyber Security Council’s SPCC for the skills (A-E) using the contextualised standards as examples of the skills required for the Technical (A) skills.

- Secure Systems Architecture and Design
Once you are ready to start your application process, you will first be asked to login to CIISec, and then directed to the payments page.
Once you have paid you will receive an email containing the application form, which you have to complete and return, as directed on the form.
