Academic Partnership
Academic Partnership
CIISec collaborates with leading universities in the field of information, cyber security and digital investigations to promote the growth of the profession and to provide career paths for those individuals who are the future of cyber security and law enforcement. Our Academic Partnership provides an opportunity for CIISec and academic institutions to collaborate and ensure the effective promotion of information security professionalism to staff and students.
The award of Academic Partner status aims to recognise the significant base of security-related expertise and activity that exists within academic institutions and to encourage and enable a dialogue between academia and the wider community of security practitioners. Being an Academic Partner of CIISec shows the rest of the industry that their courses have achieved a course accreditation that meets the industry’s high standard.

Prerequisites For CIISec’s Academic Partnership
The award of Academic Partner status equates to CIISec recognition that a given institution has a credible academic presence in the security domain, evidenced by a tangible level of security expertise and related activity amongst their academic staff base. Therefore, there are some indicative factors that must be met to be eligible for the partnership.
- Must run a selection of Cyber Security/Digital Investigation related courses
- Staff holding academic qualifications or professional certifications relating to information security (Note: For staff who are not Full Members of CIISec, you will be asked to provide CV’s with relevant details)
- Must have at least three staff members linked to the security topic area
- Other evidence of active engagement in the domain (e.g. membership of related conference committees, journal boards, working groups, etc)
In addition to having industry related staff, an Academic Partner is expected to demonstrate a tangible level of teaching and other academic engagement within the security domain. Indicative factors here would include:
- Offering taught programmes (or a significant number of themed modules) in information security
- Involvement in organising/hosting related events.
