CPD and Trail
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is about enhancing your skills and knowledge to stay current and competent. The cyber security industry moves fast, and keeping pace requires professional development.
To make CPD recording straightforward, intuitive and interactive, CIISec members have access to Trail via the Member Area.
Trail is a modern professional development platform developed by cyber security professionals in collaboration with CIISec. Designed to meet the requirements of busy professionals who often need to keep multiple certifications and registrations up to date.
All CIISec members are encouraged to record their learning and development activity – whether gained through CIISec, another organisation, or self-directed – over the membership year. A group of CIISec members piloted Trail in spring 2026 and their feedback was used by the developers to enhance and refine the platform.
Learning and development is something we all do, remembering what you did, when, and what you learnt from it is something we’re less good at. Trail makes that straightforward; with institutive design and AI-assisted logging, members can upload certificates and manage evidence anytime. The Trail mobile application, means you can upload evidence when it’s convenient to you – on the train home after a conference, once you’ve finished your team briefing etc.
It doesn’t matter whether you are new to the profession or a seasoned expert. Keeping up to date is an essential part of being competent, and maintaining a CPD record is a good way of evidencing how you are doing that.
By maintaining a record of your CPD activities, you can reflect on your career as well as identify and build upon your strengths.Â
If additional certification providers sign up to Trail, then members will find their CPD data can be uploaded once, and assigned easily across certifications.
CIISec is committed to providing learning, volunteering, assessing, and networking opportunities to members, which carry CPD recognition.
