Direct Debit FAQs

1. Do I have to sign up to Direct Debit to be a CIISec member?
No, direct debit just offers another way of paying, some find it more convenient, but the option to pay by credit card remains.

2. Why do you need my bank details?
Direct debit payments are bank-to-bank – there are no card networks involved in the direct debit scheme. All communications happen directly between the banks.

3. I don’t have a UK bank account, can I still sign up for direct debit?
No, direct debit is a UK banking service

4. Does CIISec hold my bank account details?
No, GoCardless hold all the details.

5. Is paying by direct debit secure?
The Direct Debit Guarantee protects customers from payments taken in error. In the event of any incorrect or fraudulent payments, the payer is entitled to a full and immediate refund from their bank.

6. I’ve received an email from GoCardess, who are they?
GoCardless is the direct debit provider. They are a UK-based organisation authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority and hold ISO27001 certification.

7. I haven’t received an email from GoCardless
Check your spam or junk email folder for the first email from GoCardless.

8. My membership doesn’t expire until later in the year, can I wait and sign up for DD when it is due?
Yes, and you’ll benefit from uninterrupted membership benefits without the hassle of manual renewals. However, you won’t get the 3-year fixed 2024 membership rate unless you sign up before 31st March 2025.

9. Can I sign up by telephone?
No.

10. I maintain a professional registration with the UK Cyber Security Council that CIISec invoices me for each year. Can that be taken by direct debt?
Direct debit is for CIISec membership only currently.

11. My bank account details have changed, how can I let you know?
Some banks offer a switching service, to ensure direct debits are updated. You may wish to contact CIISec at membership@ciisec.org and we will double-check the details are correct.

12. Can I pay my membership subscription in monthly installments?
Not at the moment.

13. Can I get a receipt for my membership subscription?
Yes, you will receive a receipt confirming successful payment.

14. I work at a Corporate Member organisation; can I sign up for direct debit?
Yes, but before doing so speak to your Corporate Membership rep to see if your individual membership is included in your organisation’s Corporate Membership package.

15. Will I get a reminder when my membership renewal is due?
Yes, by email, so please ensure you maintain a current email address on your profile.

16. Will I be told before a payment is taken?
Yes, members will be notified before any payment is taken, they will also receive a receipt confirming successful payment has gone through.

17. Can I cancel my direct debit?
Members can cancel a direct debit mandate by contacting their bank. In accordance with our membership terms and conditions we request that you contact membership@ciisc.org if you wish to cancel your membership.
