Beeson Continues CIISec’s Drive to Increase Industry Professionalism, Boost Diversity, and Build Security’s Role as a Strategic Business Function
LONDON, UK – 14.12.2022 – The Chartered Institute of Information Security (CIISec) today announced the appointment of Luke Beeson, Group CISO of Aviva, as the Institute’s new Chair of Board of Directors. Luke takes over from the departing chair Dr. Alastair MacWillson, who is stepping down after 17 years with the Institute. Both will be collaborating closely to ensure a smooth transition and to make sure the Institute can continue its focus on helping the cybersecurity profession drive professionalism, improve diversity, and become a strategic business function that helps organisations face the challenges of the 21st century.
Luke brings two decades of experience in technology and leadership, having previously worked at Honeywell and BT, rising to Vice President Security, UK and Continental Europe before joining Aviva.
“I’m proud to be selected as chair and to help CIISec and the profession continue its rapid evolution,” said Luke Beeson. “The cyber security profession has come a long way since the Institute was founded in 2006, and I’m looking forward to building on our successful programs, whilst working with and serving our entire community: from members to our academic and professional partners, to every part of the profession.”
Since it was founded in 2006, CIISec has helped drive professionalism in the industry – from devising Skills Frameworks that guide individuals throughout their careers, to being awarded a Royal Charter in 2018, becoming part of the Cyber Security Alliance, and taking a leading role in the new UK Cyber Security Council. As chair, Luke Beeson will act as a voice for CIISec and the profession: raising awareness of the challenges facing members, fostering industry collaboration and innovation, and supporting the drive to create an industry that can cope with any future challenges.
“We would like to thank Alastair Macwillson for his years of committed service, influence, and passion as chair, and are delighted to welcome Luke Beeson,” said Amanda Finch, CEO of CIISec. “Since the institute was founded, we have seen remarkable developments, both internally and in the industry, and we expect many more throughout the 2020s and beyond. We are confident that Luke will bring his years of CISO experience to bear in the role: helping the security profession evolve to face changing threats and needs, while attracting talented people from any background and perspective into cybersecurity.”
