Knowledge Framework

This framework expands upon the widely used CIISec Skills Framework allowing users to have a consistent view of cyber and information security. The Framework is also a baseline for the ICSF entry-level exam as a self-study material.

Framework Abstract

The Knowledge Framework is one of the components of the CIISec Capability Development Methodology (CDM) which comprises the full suite of Frameworks covering the Skills, Knowledge and Roles, forming CIISec’s intellectual property.

The Skills Framework measures competency and benchmarks the cyber security profession with its use of skill levels that pertain to an individual’s experience within the profession. The Roles Framework outlines the skill areas that are required and expected for a practitioner to be qualified for the role.

The Knowledge Framework focuses on the foundational knowledge of Cyber Security and further builds on skills levels 1 & 2 of the Skills Framework. This knowledge is either proven through an individual evidencing their experience or by studying the Knowledge Framework, leading to their ability to take and pass the Information & Cyber Security Foundations (ICSF) Exam.

The ICSF entry level exam is the official starting point for individuals entering the Cyber profession and can also be used to baseline groups of people with the minimum amount of knowledge required in 45 cyber skill areas. It lowers both the cost and technical barriers of entry to the Cyber profession by providing topical access to the Knowledge Framework for Levels 1 and 2. Passing this exam displays knowledge of cyber security principles, and individuals are awarded the industry recognised post-nominal AfCIIS.
