The Security Profession in 2019-20 Piers Wilson, Director - Chartered Institute of Information Security
The CIISec “State of the Security Profession” survey has now been running for five years. This year it has had more respondents than ever before and, as in past years, the answers themselves and the long term trends in the responses to the questions are revealing. The need for businesses to address cyber security risks has never been more important. Regulatory fines are increasing in size and, it seems, their newsworthiness. Consumers and supply chain partners are becoming less patient and less sympathetic when data is exposed as a result of carelessness or inaction on the part of those who are custodians of it. CIISec has always recognised this need and takes its role as a representative of the profession and as a focal point for their views very seriously. The data we have collected shows that security teams are struggling, but often succeeding against growing adversaries, yet still not getting the support the business perhaps ought to give them in the face of the risks that are present on the Internet and more widely.
