In this guide, we’ll decode CIISec memberships, helping you navigate through the options and find the perfect fit for your cyber security journey.

So which membership level is right for you?
1. Affiliate Membership
All members must begin their journey at this level.
Ideal for cyber security enthusiasts and entry-level professionals, an Affiliate Membership is the starting point for those looking to immerse themselves in the world of information security.
2. Accredited Affiliate Membership
This is the first accredited level of CIISec membership. It sits between Affiliate and Associate to recognise the knowledge level of an individual. The accreditation sets individuals apart early in their career with the post-nominals AfCIIS and is a stepping stone towards your Associate membership.
3. Associate Membership
Individuals who can demonstrate a breadth of knowledge and some practical experience should apply at this level. Candidates are best suited to this level if they have 2-5 years in an Information Security Role. Associate membership can also be claimed by holding an active Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP+).
The Associate Membership is a strategic step towards professional advancement, serving as a pivotal entry point for those keen on refining their skills and contributing to the cyber security community.
4. Full Membership
Full Membership demonstrates your unwavering commitment to the cyber security profession. Tailored for practitioners with 5-10 years of experience in an Information Security Role, this tier offers comprehensive benefits: Full Members not only gain the privilege of voting in CIISec AGM elections but also hold a unique opportunity to actively participate in shaping the strategic trajectory of the institute.
For individuals with a depth of knowledge and substantial hands-on experience, achieving Full Membership is a significant milestone. Moreover, if you have held Associate Membership for 3+ years you can apply for Full Membership through the Associate to Full Fast track application process, facilitating a seamless transition into this distinguished membership level. Although, it is not necessary to hold Associate before upgrading, as long as you have the years in the industry.

5. Fellow Membership
For cyber security leaders who have made a significant impact in the field, Fellow Membership is the pinnacle of recognition. Achieving this status signifies not only expertise but also a commitment to advancing the cyber security community. Fellows play a crucial role in shaping CIISec’s strategic direction and are featured prominently in the institute’s thought leadership initiatives.
The process requires a nomination by either a CIISec Board Member, Full or Fellow member. Please contact accreditation@ciisec.org to see if you are eligible.

Professional Registration
Members of CIISec can apply to obtain professional registration with the UK Cyber Security Council in the following specialisms: Cyber Security Governance & Risk Management, Secure System Architecture & Design and Cyber Security Audit and Assurance.
If you are an Associate of CIISec, you can apply to become professionally registered as either an Associate or Principal Cyber Security Professional in your chosen specialism.
If you are a Full Member of CIISec you can apply to become professionally registered as a Chartered Cyber Security Professional in your chosen specialism.
